BRAT

Is there anything worse than a stomach flu? I don’t think so. A few days ago, I got the stomach flu along with the chills and headache. My dad says that if you have it, you have to go on a brat diet. If you think about the word brat, it doesn’t sound very good. Well the foods that you eat aren’t good either! B stands for banana, R stands for rice (brown or white), A stands for apple sauce, and T stands for toast. As you can tell, these foods aren’t very tasty and are rather bland. That’s because your stomach needs to heal and eating foods like cheese, eggs, milk, cream, sugar, oil, and meats, won’t help. Even water, because you actually want to go diarrhea or barf to get it out of your system.Water just makes that worse. Sucking on an ice cube is better because you still get water, just slower. The funny part is, I would love for brat to be burgers, roast pork, apple cobbler, and tiramisu. That would be the best diet in the entire world! Also, another part of stomach flu is that you don’t have a lot of energy to do anything. I was in my bed the whole day I was sick. I stayed up the whole night too! Sometimes I had to take advil, which helps make you headache go away. After reading this, you are probably thinking, I never want to get stomach flu. My tip: don’t. Finally, I have a question, what would your favorite brat combination be (remember to use B-R-A-T as the beginning letters of the foods you pick)? I have a feeling that there are going to be a lot of answers.Featured imageFeatured imageFeatured imageFeatured image

Nate, hope you feel better soon. Tell your Mom it’s okay to give writing a rest until you’re not barfing your brains out.

For what it’s worth, I thought your writing was very descriptive and captivating. Such colorful description of the stomach flu made ME want to barf. How about writing about a runny nose or an eye infection next? That would be awesome.

I’m going with buttered ribs with sprinkled anchovies and thyme (I like my brat’s all in one). I’m in the kitchen cooking this up right now. I hope you feel better!!!

Great post, Nate. This diet is one of the first things they teach us in the GI (gastrointestinal) rotation of medical school. The problem with the diet is that it’s high in carbs and has little to no protein so not the best option if you have diabetes.
